Portland Maine residents have better looking smiles with dental bridges

A common dental problem all of us suffer is missing teeth. It is a problem because it tends to take some of our confidence away. Fortunately, with cosmetic dentistry, it can now be fixed. Morgan Dental Care, in Portland Maine, provides excellent sedation and cosmetic dentistry services. They will work with you
in finding the best option that will work for you.

Difference between dental bridges and partial dentures

To distinguish between the two, partial dentures are removable. Dental bridges on the other hand are permanent. They provide a permanent solution to missing teeth. Dental bridges are made using a false tooth placed in between two porcelain crowns on the teeth beside the gap. The false tooth is made of porcelain reinforced with either a metal or a material called zirconia. It will look like a natural tooth. The abutments, the teeth next to the gap is where the bridge is built on to support the false tooth in between. Missing teeth can cause serious damage to your mouth as time goes on but to prevent this, you will need to use replacements.

Dental bridges have several types

Portland Maine residents have the option to select traditional or fixed bridges, cantilever bridges and resin-bonded bridges. Traditional bridges are supported at both ends by abutments. A cantilever bridge use only one abutment and is used in very limited situations. A resin-bonded bridge relies on bonding, rather than abutments, to keep it in place.

Procedure for dental bridges

Morgan Dental Care will require two visits after an exam has been taken. The first visit will prepare the abutments and mold and then a temporary bridge will be made and attached temporarily. In addition, you will also be given a replacement for your missing tooth. You can also take the option of sedation and a local anesthetic to help numb and ease the anxiety of going through the procedure. The abutments are reshaped to accommodate the thickness of the crown and the bridge. To some, this may sound scary but actually it is not. Dr. Morgan and Dr. Rockwood of Morgan Dental Care in Portland Maine, are will do the best they can to ease your anxiety and get you relaxed.

The second visit will now focus on attaching the permanent dental bridge. The temporary bridge will be removed and then the permanent one will be bonded.

One benefit Morgan Dental Care dental bridges have is you will no longer have to worry about taking them out and putting them on back again. In addition, your smile and shape of your face will be restored. Lastly, maintaing proper oral hygiene will help make them last for many years.
